  • Merced running out of money, says mayor

Another California city is on the cusp of bankruptcy.

"Despite eliminating jobs, freezing the pay of those still on the payroll, reducing employee benefits, cutting travel and training budgets and even reducing the fleet of city-owned vehicles, the city of Merced is approaching the point where it will simply run out of money, says Mayor Bill Spriggs.

But the revenue coming into the city continues to plunge, leaving a $4 million to $5 million gap between what is coming in and our expenses, says Mr. Spriggs in an op-ed essay submitted to CVBT and other publications.

We have been able to use reserves and other onetime money to fill the gaps and maintain the service levels, but our reserves are almost gone, he says."

Looks like it is time for Merced to end the non essential services, regulations that kill jobs and turn over most "services" like landscaping, pot hole filling, libraries, etc., to private sources.

This Depression is a good thing in some ways. it should force government to become legitimate again.

Oh, maybe the Merced police need to pick up all the illegal aliens it finds and dump that at the local ICE office. If ICE releases them, pick them up again and bus them to Mexico. Let Obama explain to America why he refuses to deport illegal aliens.
