Rogers and the other members of his movement propose splitting off 13 counties on the state’s coast, leaving the remaining 45, mostly inland, counties as the “real” California. [Farmers Lead a Bid to Create 2 Californias, by Malia Wollan, New York Times, March 13, 2009]

Others favor three Californias that would include Coastal, Northern and Southern California.

As the debate about how to save California mounts, three things are certain. First, that California as it is currently governed cannot sustain itself. Second, that the solutions are not token cuts in spending and services or personnel layoffs. Third, that while dividing the state into two or three entities may be the most effective long term answer, it will be impossible to implement.
The problem with splitting California is that there are very few conservative areas left. If another state were carved out, that would probably mean at least 1 and probably 2 more Democrat senators.

That's exactly what it would mean. California is out of control with Democratic majorities in nearly all areas, and until something is done about the illegal immigration it's only going to get worse.

I wonder if there might be enough democrat revulsion of their candidates in California to lessen the influence of their ranks in political terms. Maybe enough of them are going to turn away from Candidates the likes of Boxer-Pelosi, and support less obnoxious representatives.
One thing that really irritates me about Rush limbaugh is his mantra of voting out all democrats in the coming elections. I don't see how that will do anything but create a fear among dems against the republicans taking power and just make things worse. Rush's world = all dems bad. If you want to win an election when you are the numerically challenged party, you need to attract some crossover voters, or in the very least, some third party voters. I don't see them doing that if you threaten the associations they had or have.

I think you give the voters too much credit for being educated, AG. As long as these candidates have sufficient name recognition it hardly matters how bad they are-they're going to keep on getting re-elected. It's a sad commentary, however true.
