  • California?s new truancy laws will turn screws on parental accountability

Failed government schools have decided to use the criminal justice system to get money. While the quality of education will not get better, the unions will get more money.

The bad news is that students who do not want to be in a classroom will now have reason to disrupt the classroom, get suspended ore expelled--the outcome they want--at the loss of education for good kids.

Maybe if educators worried about education and not "societal" needs, LAUSD would not have an over 50% drop out rate. You can not force bullies, druggies, gang members or illegal aliens to stay in a classroom. Maybe these educators need a refresher course in the goals of education, instead of harming the possibility of an education for the good kids.

Fining poor parents, sending them to jail--can you imagine the anger and disruption that will cause in the families involved and the kids, tied down to a chair in a classroom. This is a recipe for violence, in the home or in the classroom. The better answer is NOT to force kids to be in a classroom--maybe if we end the mandatory attendance rules we would have fewer violent kids in school?
