The Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services is expanding its hours to accommodate unprecedented demand.
The food bank has announced that, beginning this month, its Oak Park office will stay open on Wednesdays until 7 p.m. to supply free food, clothing, diapers and other items to families unable to come to the agency during the day. It also will stay open on Mondays between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in North Sacramento to offer computer use and parenting supplies, said director Blake Young.
"People are being pushed to the brink," Young said. "If we can help them out with a couple hundred dollars worth of groceries, with some clothes, with some diapers, we are going to find a way to do it."
The food bank, which feeds 17,000 people a month, has seen a 25 percent increase in demand this year.
