  • Affecting Immigration At A Local Level

Can you affect immigration issues from an individual or local platform?
Certainly you can. Many of our local representatives and appointees have deflected attempts by municipal or individuals to mitigate the harmful by-products of immigration as improper or even unlawful. They often spew the same tired excuse that this is a federal matter. The news is, you, as an individual, are the federal government. You pay taxes; You vote; You are a member of the constituency that controls the federal government. This entitles you to as much or as little involvement or opinion about immigration as you want. No one should try to silence, intimidate, or threaten you over your right to involve yourself in the affairs of your government. And that being the case, you also have a right to express yourself about immigration issues at the local level.
How do you affect immigration locally?
    This one's too easy.
1)Call, write, visit your representatives office weekly. Personal visits are my favorite.
    2) organize within your neighborhood. Take an hour and make up a flier to distribute within your own neighborhood. Then, take an hour a day for a week and pass them out in the neighborhood. Here is a film clip showing how it's done:

    3) Go to community meetings and voice opposition to programs and practices that aid illegal immigrants, and give immigrants special help or privilidges

    4) Arrange and attend public meetings that deal with immigration related issues. You can host them at public venues like libraries and muni parks and community centers

    5) Watch your neighborhood for illicit activities like illegal immigrants setting up under the table type businesses. there are numerous agencies that have contact informaton whereby you can report them. Examples are: businesses operating with no business license, resale permits, or health permits posted. We will address these in a separate thread coming up.
