  • Marin Voters to Decide on Desalination Plant

We have plenty of water in California, if we had a Governor with the guts to open the water pumps. Arnold needs to act on the fact that people and families are more important than the delta smelt.

Yet, the folks in Marin may be forced to spend lots of money to create their own water supply from the ocean.

"This coming election, Marin County voters will decide Measures S and T, which deal with a proposed water desalination plant that would convert San Francisco Bay water to potable water.

Measure S, placed on the ballot by the Marin Municipal Water District, is an ordinance calling for a public vote before the district approves construction or financing construction of the $105 million, five-million gallon a day plant in San Rafael.

Measure T, proposed by opponents of the plant, is an ordinance that also calls for voter approval before the water district authorizes or starts construction of the plant, but it also prohibits the district from authorizing any planning or construction contracts or from appropriating any money, including bonds, for it"

I have not checked, but my guess is the donations FOR the plant comes from construction firms, Wall Street sources and unions.

This is not about water--it is about special interests owning government.
