  • Feds Pay Million $$ for "Art" at shipyard in San Fran

California is tens of billions in debt. The Federal government ran a deficit last year of $1.4 billion and this year the deficit will be $1.6 billion.

Yet, the Feds have a million dollars for "art" in a shipyard.

"Nine artists will be paid nearly $1 million in commissions to provide public art for parks and public spaces that will be part of the first phase of the Hunters Point Shipyard project.

The winning artists were chosen in December from a field of 283 entrants, whose work was displayed in a weeklong exhibition at the Bayview Opera House. The negotiated commissions, which are paid from federal grant money, were recently approved by the city's Redevelopment Commission."

    Now we know Baracks' nickname--Nero.

With cops being fired, roads pock marked with potholes, 10% unemployment, this is how government spends your money.

"Mildred Howard and Walter Hood, who have a number of public art pieces in the Bay Area, received the largest commission, $379,000 for "Frame-Refrain," a two-piece composition that will frame the outdoor space. Jerry Barrish, whose studio is in the Dogpatch neighborhood, will get $125,000 for "Bayview Horn," a 15-foot-tall bronze of a musician playing a red trombone, while Matthew Geller of New York City will be paid $121,000 for "Nautical Swing," which provides a spot for residents to sit and enjoy the surroundings."

    Enough said.
