Arnold was never a great actor. But, he could deliver his lines. In Oakland, he delivered his lines of inspiration to a city that is openly corrupt and bankrupt--teachers on strike for higher pay!
"Speaking to 800 small-business owners and the association leaders who support them, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday offered a personal story of optimism and inspiration to those who may be struggling to launch a company or make ends meet during these rocky economic times.
"I have friends who come here from Europe and they join Gold's Gym and before I know it, they become personal trainers and then they have 100 clients and they are making $100 an hour and driving around in Hummers and Corvettes," he said, garnering one of few laughs from the audience at downtown's Marriott Hotel. "You need to have the vision and the will. You can start something, but you have to be creative."
Guess he does not understand we can’t all become personal trainers--California has a 12.6% unemployment rate--a record high. California has the third highest taxes, thanks to Arnold, in the nation. In the past five years, thanks to Arnold and his previous Budget Director, Tom Campbell, California has had a $100 billion in deficits--and this year the real deficit could be north of $40 billion--when everything is included.
We do not need inspiration from the Governor, we need perspiration from him. The perspiration would be caused by terminating State employees--instead of adding them. The sweat should be because he is vetoing bills, closing agencies and selling unneeded assets.
We need a sweaty Governor, not one that is auditioning to become the next Zig Ziglar .or Tony Robbins. Eight months and counting.
