  • Some furlough days actually cost California money

Another phony savings has been "found" in the budget.

We already have the losing lawsuits over the illegal cuts.

We already have the lack of $1 billion over the sale of portions of the State Compensation Fund.

We already have more employees today than we had five years ago.

Now, we know that we furlough people, then pay overtime to cover them. "In the long run, the state will save far less than the $1.7-billion touted by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger when he ordered state workers furloughed three days a month, the report concludes.

"Really what is happening in these facilities is the state is not reducing hours, they're just deferring paychecks," said Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento), who ordered the report."

We need a real budget, not one meant to create a "balanced budget" so we can borrow more money and go deeper in debt.

We need adults in charge of Sacramento.
