  • Taxes: Paying through the nose

Government is out of control and we, the people, are being squeezed.

"Government likes to tax just about every sin under the sun. For the sin of reading this newspaper, you will be assessed a sales tax. In the city of San Bernardino, for example, that amounts to 9 percent of the price of the daily news.

If you drink sugary soft drinks, you pay sales tax, and now some folks at Princeton and Harvard are proposing a one-cent-per-ounce tax on that sin. That's in addition to the CRV, or cash redemption value, you're paying so that night marauders can steal the empty containers from your recycling bin.

The soda tax advocates claim that a 10 percent increase in the cost of sugary drinks would result in a 10 percent decline in usage and a health care savings in the billions. Statistics from the ozone, in our humble opinion."

Until we take back control of government, families will be poorer, fewer jobs and a population that has little self government. We need a good voter revolt.
