  • Unions Create Astro-Turf Rally for Government Schools

An education union has a conference in San Jose. "The California School Employees Association, representing 230,000 public school bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers, clerks, secretaries and teaching aides, is in San Jose this week for its annual conference. Nearly 2,000 of them marched Wednesday to the Alfred E. Alquist State Building on Second Street to deliver postcards to the offices of state officials, urging the governor and lawmakers to spare education from the budget ax."

This was not a real rally of independent people. It was a rally of people upset that corruption and waste is being squeezed out of the government education system.

Then, near the bottom of the article we find this, "Sherry Brown, a special education paraeducator from the Woodland Joint Unified School District near Sacramento, said staff reductions and other cuts there have been "awful." Summer school has been almost entirely eliminated from her district except for certain cases such as special education, she said."

What is a "special education paraeducator"? It is not an educator. Sounds like a fancy title for an off the street aide in the special education department.

This is why education is expensive--give someone a title, then they need high pay. That is why the unions run these Astro-Turf rallies--wonder if this is what San Fran Nan was referring to in her criticism of rallies?
