  • LAUSD Spent $1.7 Million of tax $$ Growing Lettuce, While Firing Teachers

LAUSD is claiming it is going to fire teachers. It has fired librarians and counselors. Yet, they found a grant for $1.7 million to grow corn and onions--while students have a 60% drop out rate.

Now you know why government has too much money--money enough for gardens but not books.

Is the idea of growing food a good one? Yup. Is this the role of government schools? Nope. This program belongs at the Boys and Girls Clubs or the YMCA. Schools are for education. If this program was in Tulare County where kids grow up to be farmers--this might be a good program. But, it is in Culver City.

Time for a voter revolt---if LAUSD thinks spending money on seeds for a garden rather than books for a library, then the folks in charge have to go. But, if they really want to plant a garden on barren land, how about planting the next garden in the Capitol, where the infamous "Smoking Tent" inhabits? It will stop smoking and maybe the bad ideas found in the haze of cigar smoke.
