  • San Fran tax maniacs Want to End the Payroll Tax! Hell Just Froze

Get me a paramedic! The Mayor of San Fran admits taxes are too high, causing the loss of jobs! Better, he wants to get rid of the payroll tax!!

"“I think, along with some other members of the Board (of Supervisors), that the time has come that maybe that payroll tax is something that we ought to rethink completely to welcome businesses,” Edwin Lee told an audience of 800 people at a Wednesday breakfast event focused on the economies of San Francisco and Oakland.

San Francisco’s payroll tax rate is 1.5 percent and is levied on for-profit companies with payroll exceeding $150,000. Some businesses, like law firms, are exempt. About 6,000 businesses pay it.

The payroll tax generated about $319 million, or about 5 percent, of last year’s overall budget of $6.3 billion.

San Francisco businesses owners criticize the payroll tax, saying it punishes them for expanding their workforce."

Is there any good reason attorneys are exempted from this tax? Except for good City Hall connections.

This is a tax that has to go--with NO replacement. If it does not go, then attorneys must pay as well--why should they be a protected class, like illegal aliens in San Fran?
